INBA attends 2015 WBA Chamber Leadership Conference.

IMG_9456INBA board treasurer Kelly Thompson, and GM Marvo Reguindin recently attended the Western Business Alliance (WBA) 2015 LGBT Chamber Leadership conference in Palm Springs, CA. The annual conference is a way for  LGBT chambers in the western U.S. to exchange ideas, share best practices on board governance and membership retention. Eleven chambers from California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and BC Canada attended.

Seattle’s Executive Director, Louise Chernin, was given an award for her over 25 years of sharing her knowledge at WBA conferences.

Kelly Thompson attended last year’s conference in Seattle with 3 other INBA board members and staff membership manager. She said that Seattle was amazing and the information that was discussed seemed overwhelming to new ears. Attending her second conference she was able enough to contribute to conversations, met new chamber leaders and is now eager to put some of what she has learned to use with INBA. Marvo Reguindin, on the other hand, has been attending these conferences for over 10 years and says he learns something new each year. “What is amazing to me is learning about the state of other chambers. Some like INBA have been steady and doing well while some have had a full change of board members and are starting from ground zero.”

The Northwest LGBT chambers (Seattle, Spokane, Portland, Vancouver BC) have agreed to find ways to work together on initiatives that will benefit all chambers such as public policy, tourism, and scholarships.

INBA is set to host the 2019 conference as part of our 25th Anniversary celebration.
