Despite healthcare discrimination elsewhere, Rockwood Clinics stand firm: "We treat all patients with dignity and respect”.

“Last September, Krista and Jami Contreras of Detroit met with Dr. Vesna Roi for a prenatal checkup. Believing they had developed a strong rapport with the pediatrician, the couple returned shortly after the birth of their child for the newborn’s routine wellness appointment. When they arrived, another doctor informed them that, after praying on it, Roi had decided to refuse to treat the 6-day-old baby girl. The reason? Her mothers are lesbians.” -slate.com

Despite the unbelievable level of intolerance this doctor displayed, there are hundreds of healthcare professionals more open and accepting than this one bad apple. In fact, INBA has the honor to have an entire organization of open and accepting healthcare providers as a valued member of our chamber. Rockwood Health Systems recently joined INBA because every one of their providers and staff is dedicated to making life better for all individuals and families regardless of background, beliefs, or situation.

“At Rockwood Clinic we take The Hippocratic Oath very seriously. It is as relevant today as it was 2,500 years ago. One key duty of the oath stipulates…”whatsoever house I may enter, my visit shall be for the convenience and advantage of the patient.”  What does that mean…”whatsoever house I may enter?” Quite simply it means physicians take care of all patients irrespective of their station in life. We do not judge or give preferential care. Rockwood continues to support the health and wellness of the LGBT community as evidenced by our platinum level membership in INBA. We treat all patients with dignity and respect”.

-Michael A. Patmas, MD, MMM, CPE, FACP, FACPE, FACHE | Chief Executive Officer | Rockwood Clinic

INBA is proud to have such an open and accepting member of our community as a trusted business partner and healthcare provider. Thank you to all the professionals and staff that provide a welcoming environment for our members!
