Planned Parenthood Responds to continuing attacks.

Karl Eastlund, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho sent the following message  to their supporters regarding the recent attacks to Planned Parenthood. The regional chapter is a member of INBA.

Every woman has the right to make decisions about her own body and health care. Yet in the past couple weeks, we have seen attacks by extremists who continue threatening this right in an attempt to defund Planned Parenthood and deny women the care they need. This is all part of a decades-long attack by extremists making false accusations, and terrorizing women and their doctors, all in order to ban abortion, eliminate important life-saving scientific research, and cut women off from care at Planned Parenthood.

These politically-motivated attacks using highly deceptive and edited videos claiming that Planned Parenthood profits in any way from tissue donation are simply not true. To be clear: There is nothing in these videos that suggest any violation of law. These tapes are heavily doctored, and the full tapes show that charges that Planned Parenthood profits from women’s decisions to donate fetal tissue are absolutely false and outrageous.

Planned Parenthood of Greater WA and North Idaho will ensure that this extremist group isn’t successful in their attempt to take away important healthcare and education from our nearly 28,000 local patients across Eastern Washington and North Idaho.  These false claims are being used to advance a political agenda to ban abortion and to defund Planned Parenthood, which would cut 2.7 million people nationally off of birth control, lifesaving cancer screenings, STD testing and treatment, and other preventive health care services

How you can help

Your support at this time is vital in ensuring that the women, men, and families we serve are able to continue making their own health decisions and access services at Planned Parenthood. We are committed to fight this through to the end, but we need your help:

  • Check out our local supporter toolkit. We have put together a special online resource kit for you, which includes important links to ways you can help, fast facts on the issue, and a sample Letter to the Editor template. This will always contain the most up-to-date information and our tools, so check back regularly in the coming weeks.
  • Sign the petition to tell Congress you Stand With Planned Parenthood. Anti-choice politicians in Congress are pushing to vote on defunding Planned Parenthood this week. That puts everything we do at risk – our health care, our education, and our community outreach.
  • Join the I Stand With PP campaign. This online digital campaign sends a strong message about how we won’t tolerate false allegations that attack women, Planned Parenthood, and important scientific research.
  • Share your story! If you’ve ever been impacted by Planned Parenthood, go to our story form online and tell us about it. These stories have a tremendous impact in helping people understand the work we do and why it’s so important to support accessible healthcare in our community. No story is too small.
  • Send a thank you to a healthcare provider. These go a long way in showing both providers and the community that people stand behind access to healthcare for all.
  • Spread the word. Our Facebook  page will feature all the latest news and updates on this issue. We encourage you to share posts with people you know to help combat this intentional spread of misinformation by extremists, especially using the #StandWithPP hashtag. Also, support is contagious – being open about your support has a tremendous impact on others.
