This week’s member spotlight has a unique personality to match his business. Silvano Bitencourt, often styled as “Sylvano,” exudes tremendous energy and passion for his profession. After founding Sylvano’s Grooming in 2006, he became the owner of HotDogz Grooming Salon in 2010. Originally from Brazil, Sylvano has brought his distinctive style to the grooming business in Spokane.

His mission is to teach pet owners to be better pet lovers. Through grooming he is able to reach out to his customers and talk about how they treat their pets, the quality of foods and products they should use, as well as how to better understand their pets. He is dedicated to using organic and biodegradable products and takes the time to get pets calm and comfortable before grooming which is important for the safety of the pet and the groomer.

Customer service is the heart of his business and it shows. Voted in the Top 5 of KREM’s Best of Spokane, he is also a registered member of the National Dog Grooming Association and the National Cat Groomers of America. HotDogz Grooming Salon offers pet grooming of all breeds and sizes of dogs and cats. Specializing in scissor and clips cuts, HotDogz also provides pet boarding and pet day care.

Sylvano started grooming in 2000 in Miami Beach, FL. managing the grooming department for large chain pet stores. He noticed how poorly groomers treated the animals, assigning each one a number with no personal service or care. Empowered by the knowledge that he could offer a better experience for pets and their owners and confident in his skills, Sylvano decided to start a business of his own after he moved to Spokane in 2006.

The way people in Spokane help each other and their naturally friendly disposition reminds Sylvano of growing up in Brazilia, the capital city of his native country. This city has a pet-loving community, friendly people and offers affordable living. He says Spokane is generally good for business, but he senses subtle discrimination possibly due to his accent and Latin personality.

He would like to see more businesses that are inclusive and accepting of minorities and willing to share their professional knowledge. A member of INBA since 2006, Sylvano has been an active participant in helping the LGBT Community, stressing, “It is so important for our community to support and do business together.”

He is currently focused on providing high quality, personalized service and is always seeking new customers who want only the best for their pets. Within the next five years Sylvano hopes to expand HotDogz Grooming with employees that match his passion and enthusiasm for animals.
