'Welcome Everyone' Campaign Begins in Dallas

INBA’s affiliate chamber, North Texas GLBT Chamber of Commerce, launched a “Welcome Everyone” campaign in the past week with window stickers and counter signs.

“There are lots of businesses out there that really do want to welcome everyone. It doesn’t matter to them your race, your religion, your sexual orientation, your gender identity,” says Chamber President Tony Vedda. His goal for the ‘Welcome Everyone’ campaign is to highlight these businesses that are proudly and actively welcoming all customers regardless of beliefs or background.

As a priority, North Texas GLBT Chamber of Commerce is targeting small businesses far from the typical gay-friendly neighborhoods around Dallas. According to Vedda the small, community-centered businesses are vital to making an impact on a larger scale. “If a lot more non-LGBT business owners step up and embrace the campaign, that’s really where you see the victory. And that’s where you might see the change happen.”

Bakeries, florists, and surprisingly, a pizza shop, have been the battleground for small business LGBT acceptance. Candelarias Bakery, located in the Dallas Suburb of Mesquite, was among the first to get a window sticker and counter sign. The campaign uses a rainbow-colored barcode and the slogan “LGBT WE Zone,” letting customers know that this business has pledged to Welcome Everyone.

“We are in the business of celebrating life and all the wonderful moments,” said bakery owner Iris Candelaria. “I would hate for somebody to come in here and not feel welcome.”

“We are so fortunate in Washington State to have so many protections for the LGBT Community. My good friends Tony Vedda in Dallas, Ruby Resendez in San Antonio, and Ceci Gratias in Austin are all doing a great jobs through their LGBT chambers fighting for equality in a state where LGBT protects are zero” states INBA General Manager, Marvo Reguindin.

8-17-15 Update: Austin was added to the list of Texas LGBT Chambers.
