Opportunities for Engagement with Spokane Police Department

SPD badgeIf you’d like to ask questions, provide comment, or just get to know people at Spokane Police Department, please join us at one of the following events this Thursday, September 15. We’re here in the morning and evening.

 Coffee with a Cop

This Coffee with a Cop event is in partnership with Thomas Hammer Coffee, River Park Square, and the Downtown Spokane Partnership. It’s Thursday, September 15th, from 9-11:00 am in the first floor atrium at River Park Square.

 Public Meeting

The Police Advisory Committee’s Quarterly Public Meeting is later that night, 5:30-7:00 pm at East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone St.  SPD leaders give updates at this meeting and are available to talk with community members.

Also, next week, there will be a special gospel concert fundraiser for the Youth & Police Initiative (YPI), featuring Grammy winner Sherman Andrus and Lonny Bingle of Andrus & Bingle. Lonny Bingle is a local pastor who is a supporter of the YPI program. Please see attached flyer about the concert.

About YPI: Since its inception in 2014, 294 local youth have graduated from YPI. 102 SPD officers have gone through the program as well. We’ve held 23 sessions in high schools and community gathering places and one in a middle school. YPI allows for real dialogue between teens and officers and the connections are significant. Teens have continued to stay in touch with officers by volunteering at the Police Activities League, attending YPI reunions and special events, and even volunteering last weekend with SPD at the County Fair.
