Playfair Commerce Park donates Arterial to City

A new arterial through the Playfair Commerce Park was dedicated on July 11th drawing over 200 people and city officials to open the new road.

The Ferry/Altamont arterial ties the East Sprague Industrial Area to the Sprague Ave businesses and was paid for by the commerce park and donated to the city. Until the commerce park is fully developed, 95% of the arterial use will be unrelated to the Playfair Commerce Park and estimated that 5000 vehicles a day will use the new arterial route as a shortcut in their daily commute. The road and sidewalks were built above standard requirements to add strength and lifespan to the project.

An under crossing of the Union Pacific Rail Road line was also created that will allow commuters to travel without stopping and avoid congestion at Thor-Freya. The railroad under-crossing also features an over-height warning device that will warn trucks they are too tall to pass. This warning device is the first of its kind in Spokane and also gifted to the city by Playfair.

Playfair Commerce Park was created in 2009 at the original Playfair Race Track and is a development started by Larry Stone, the owner and CEO of our chamber partner SCAFCO. Larry has been a long time supporter of INBA, and he is the original publisher of now defunct Stonewall News, Spokane’s first LGBT newspaper.
