The International Skating Union has chosen Spokane, Washington as the host city for the inaugural Team Challenge Cup. A multi-continent figure skating competition will split competitors into three three teams, Team North America, Team Europe, and Team Asia. The three-day event will feature 42 of the top figure skaters in the world, with each team composed of of three ladies, three men, two pairs teams and two ice dance teams.
Captain for Team North America, Gold Medalist, and World Champion, Kristi Yamaguchi, along with 2014 U.S. National Champion Gracie Gold, were in Spokane to present the news that another major figure skating event would return to “Skate City USA.” Spokane was previously host to the 2007 and 2010 United States Figure Skating Championships, the former breaking figure skating attendance records with over 155,000 tickets sold. Based off of the success of these two events, plus the International Skate America competition, held in Spokane in 2002, its easy to see why Spokane has embraced the #SkateCityUSA title.
